Acting Fundamentals classes are for students who are ready to start learning the foundations of acting work in a fun and engaging atmosphere.
Session 1: Creating Character
Start learning the fundamentals of acting through the lens of a specific character. Put yourself in someone else's shoes and develop your character's very own way of walking, talking, and behaving. Character work helps to direct and focus creative energy, and builds emotional intelligence as actors work to understand another's point of view. The final class will be open to family and friends as students share their work.
Session 2: Creating EnsemblePrerequisite: Creating Character recommended
Young people learning to work together in a theatrical ensemble are building problem-solving and team-working skills for life. Group-based improvisation and theatre games will improve eye contact, physical and spacial awareness, and collaborative work ethic in children. The final class will be open to family and friends as students share their work.
Session 3: The Actor PreparesPrerequisite: Creating Ensemble recommended
Explore the ins and outs of performance technique while developing acting skills in partner scene-work. Students will work in partners and small groups on scenes from existing plays. Performing established theatre texts helps develop communication and public-speaking skills, improves memorization, and builds a sense of collaboration.
