Riverside Theatre Works
Home School Daytime Educational Drama Programming
Riverside Theatre Works is celebrating its 30th Anniversary educating, entertaining and enlightening its students and audience. In our 30th year, RTW is branching out into daytime educational programming.
Our daytime educational programming is suited to students ages 6-14 who are interested in expanding their critical and creative thinking outside the classroom. Studying drama not only increases self-esteem and self-awareness but encourages teamwork, eye contact and greater communication skills.
Our daytime educational programming is offered in two 12-week sessions. Students not only have access to some of best teaching artists in the Boston area but have access to a 185 seat theatre equipped with a full lighting grid and sound system. A final presentation will take place on stage.
Each class is 3 hours long (10:30am - 1:30pm) and includes a 30 minute supervised lunch in our lounge. Students are encouraged to bring a healthy lunch but have the opportunity to order from a local café. Families enrolling more than one student in the program receive 10% off each additional child.
The FALL SESSION begins the week of September 20th and ends by December 17th.
Shakespeare's Musical Story
Ages 10-14
Wednesdays, 10:30-1:30pm
$350 per 12-week session
Romeo and Juliet and Taming of the Shrew are two of Shakespeare's most revered plays. They are also two tales that inspired two of America's most beloved musicals - Leonard Bernstein's "West Side Story" and Cole Porter's "Kiss Me, Kate." In this drama class, students will analyze and explore the similarities and differences in these classic works. Pushing the boundaries of their own creativity, they will also learn verse, scenes, songs and choreography from all four pieces and ultimately produce their one-of-a-kind Shakespearean Musical.
Storytelling and Folklore
Ages 6-10
Wednesdays, 10:30-1:30pm
$350 per 12-week session
Expand your literary knowledge by exploring various cultures through a variety of worldly short stories, fairy tales and folklore. Storytelling is an unexplored art form in a traditional education curriculum but in this 12-week workshop, students explore storytelling not only as we often see it in writing but in spoken word and in body movement. Through dance, rhythm, rhyme and song, students will challenge their minds, bodies and voices as they explore the history and future of storytelling.
