Musical Theatre I- (ages 8-10 years)

For the musical theatre beginner! Through ensemble work, discover what it takes to sing, act, and dance all at the same time! Skills taught include: using facial expression to tell a story, basic dance techniques, and vocal production. This class will explore these techniques while working on several scenes and ensemble numbers fromBroadway Musicals for presentation in June.The January presentation will be an “open classroom”showing of the work thus far.(10 year olds with 1 full year of prior experience can choose which level to enroll in).

Learn to be a triple threat this fall in the Musical Theatre II class! Through both ensemble and solo performance work, discover what it takes to make a scene come alive on the stage. Issues explored include vocal production, acting a song, singing a scene, defining a character, and all other aspects of singing and acting a musical. The class will explore these techniques while working on an adapted version of a Broadway Musical for the June presentation.All major roles are divided and every child gets a moment in the “spotlight.The January presentation will be an ”open classroom”showing of the work thus far. (10 year olds must have had at least one full year of musical theatre already or permission from the instructor.)

Musical Theatre III -(ages 13-18 years)

This teen musical theatre class will get you ready to perform and audition for any musical! Through both ensemble and solo performance work, students will learn a variety of songs from Broadway’s oldest and newest musicals, giving them a strong repertoire of musical numbers with which they can audition.The class will focus on character analysis from “page to stage,” understanding how music motivates a character’s movements and emotions, and presenting a musical to an audience.The January presentation will feature the above work through various songs and scenes, while the students will present their full-length musical in June.
* MUST ENROLL IN STAGECRAFT, DANCE MOVEMENT OR CHARACTER ANALYSIS.

From "hands-on" art projects to musical instrument playing to re-creating stories in to plays- Everyone will have something to dance, sing or clap about in our Saturday early childhood creative drama program. Melissa brings her background in music, art and acting to the classroom stage and takes the children on an incredible 12-week journey. Classroom presentaion at the end of each session.

It’s time to apply basic acting skills to dramatic and comedic text!Students will use the basic acting skills developed in Youth I and apply it to text. Class will include monologue and scene study.The students will enjoy the process of creating a performance piece that can be used on stage or for an audition. Family and Friends will be invited to an informal presentation of the monologues and scenes in the fall.During the second semester, we will use the vital skills learned earlier to rehearse and perform a short play.

Intermediate Acting - (age 13-16 years)

INthis 4 hours a week production class students produce two full productions a year: a drama inthe Fall and a musical in the Spring. Students will be exposed to Greek theatre, American classics, and the modern musical. Students will spend their class time blocking scenes, studying historical aspects of the play, building characters, and working one-on-one with the instructor to gain strong performance skills. Students will be admitted into class by audition only on September 6, 2008 from 4-6 PM. Shows will be chosen on the auditions and students selected. This is an intense performance class culminating in a showcase to local directors and teachers. Students must be available both days in the Fall and Spring.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: 1 minute monologue, 1 uptemppo and 1 ballad song 32 bars- Sign up with Tara brooke Watkins. Fall Show - November 7& 8, 2008 and Spring Show - May 29, 30, 31, 2009.

Specialized Theatre Classes


Stagecraft - (age 13-17 years) open to all students

Putting on a show is more than just what the audience sees up on stage!Students in this class will learn all the aspects of what goes on behind the scenes, too.From set design, to costume and make-up, to stage management, students will get a taste of what else they can do in the theatre worldand make themselves more valuable to theatres in the area.Students will work backstage for all mainstage productions, running lights and sound, helping with the set, and stage managing.Guest artists from around Boston will teach various sections of the class.

Character Development - (ages 12-17 years)

For the serious acting student! Through monologues, scene studies, and situation improv, students will discover how to create a character and various methods of putting that character on stage. Each week, students will present a monologue they have been working on- all while the rest of the class analyzes their performances. Students will be taught various acting methods to use for performances and will have to present pieces utilizing these methods. There is no final performance requirement for this class.

**(Required class for any 3rd year student enrolled in Musical Theatre III and Teen Actors Studio. Discounted Tuition $200.00/ year).

Beginning Film Acting - 8 week class- (September 10-October 29)

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be someone else for the day?  Did you ever see a commercial on TV and think, "I could do that!" Well, now you can!  In this introductory class students will explore film technique through text analysis, improvisations, scene study, and mock auditions.  Students will learn what it means to be a film actor!  We will also discuss the business of acting, from how to dress for auditions to where safely seek them out and much more.  With Hollywood heading East, there is no time like the present to find out what it means to be a film actor!

Students will be filmed and will receive a demo tape at the end of the session.
